Why Support ACRE:

  • Support collaboration with the Municipality in continued conservation of the quantity and quality of our drinking water and protection of our wetlands.

ACRE has worked to conserve water and wetlands and the many values they bring to our community, with a by-law to protect wetlands.  Working closely with the Municipality, ACRE initiated the “Chelsea H2O” project to conserve the quality and quantity of our drinking water.

  • Support activities such as the AURORA habitation restoration project.

ACRE members have been involved in hands on ecological restoration through the AURORA project. This habitat restoration project involved the re-naturalization of a riparian area damaged by commercial activities on the west bank of the Gatineau River, just north of the Alonzo-Wright Bridge in Chelsea.

  • Support Nature Chelsea, a project launched in cooperation with the Municipality involving the documentation of Chelsea’s biodiversity, information for consideration in Chelsea’s Master Plan.

From water, ACRE moved to launch the “Nature Chelsea” project, again in cooperation with the municipality.  Nature Chelsea documented the biodiversity of Chelsea, involving scientists from around Canada and studying everything from dragon flies to wolves.  We have mapped all the ecological communities, rare species and wildlife corridors in the community and this information will go into the next Master plan for Chelsea.

  • Support ACRE as a land trust which will work on a range of land stewardship issues.

Learn More>

ACRE was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation in Quebec in April 2000 and is now a legal Land Trust.  As a land trust, ACRE can work on a range of land stewardship issues, including helping private landowners conserve ecological values, acquiring land directly or holding legal easements on lands for the purposes of conservation.   This is a new program for us and you will be hearing much more of this in the future.

As always, we will continue to work on public education with the schools, through community events such as Earth Day, and through our public lecture series (Starting January 31st 2017).
So please join or re-join this community organization.  Because ACRE is a charity your membership and any additional donations are tax deductible and you will be issued a tax receipt.
Chelsea will be an environmentally friendly community if we work together to make it happen.

Please join and get involved.
